Sadly, as right as Helen Thomas is in her assertions, the press has done nothing but continually fail this nation for the past decade by choosing to focus upon the insubstantial or inconsequential and labeling it “news.”
I have little to no respect left for members of the media or American journalism in general. Where were these questions five fucking years ago? Why do certain candidates on the Right receive a pass for their preachers’ remarks, while those on the left are condemned as a result of remarks which are far more benign?
So, fuck Helen Thomas. Asking me to respect her (or any other journalist) would be like asking me to respect someone who turned their back to a drowning man.

I think part of the responsibility lies with people who’d rather buy magazines focused on pop stars and diet fads than world news. News organizations won’t run stories that don’t sell.

My brother sent me a link to a “ChipIn” page. Somebody wants to buy Helen Thomas flowers for “being the only reporter with the guts to ask tough questions at the White House.” I just looked. They’ve collected more than $2,800.
